Dedicated and caring local citizens committed to preserving the stories of the Tampico area provide volunteer time to collect, coordinate and interpret photographs, biographies and all sorts of wonderful historical jewels. The historical society is located a few doors down from the Ronald Reagan Birthplace and volunteers can also provide tours of the museum located a few doors down at 111 S. Main Street. Visit the museum and gift shop then do a little poking around ...you never know what you will uncover!
The Family History/Research Center is available for historical and genealogical research. The Tampico Tornado newspapers, published from 1876-1966 are archived and on site. Plat Maps, funeral logs, history books and many other items of interest to the family historian. Assistance in your local genealogical research is available at no charge. The TAHS members also have on-site access to Ancestry.com. They offer WI-FI Internet as well.
This historical society is open to all, free of charge, but due to an all volunteer workforce, it is only open by appointment or by chance. If you are traveling any distance, it is highly suggested that you make an appointment in advance.
