In the 1800s Clinton, Iowa was considered the saw mill capital of the world and had more millionaires per capita than any other icty in America!

The Sawmill Museum's permanent exhibit houses some original pieces from the Struve Mill, which was operational from the 1860s to the 1980s in Hauntown, Iowa.  This exhibit tells the story of how lumber was processed from living tree to finsihed product, which was then used locally for commercial and residential purposes.  The musuem also houses a 20th century working sawmill.
