Racing for the Riverfronts in Rock Falls/Sterling It’s not just a running event, it’s a community event! The cities of Rock Falls, IL & Sterling, along with the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, Sterling Main Street, Rock Falls Chamber of Commerce and Greater Sterling Development Corporation are teaming up once again to bring you Bridge the Community Friday September 15th & Saturday September 16th 2017. Bridge the Community is a 10K and 5K run/walk event, along with a Bridge Dash for the kids. Last year’s run was sponsored by HALO Branded Solutions, CGH Medical Center, local State Farm agents Jack Spencer and Mike Sprague and Rock Falls Tourism. The event is also partnering once again with the Woodlawn Arts Academy, and more specifically, its annual Student-Teacher art exhibit for a new series of banners to be installed along the First Avenue Bridge connecting Rock Falls and Sterling, IL.
The course begins along the Rock Falls, IL Riverfront in the Run Bike & Walk District across from the newly built Holiday Inn Express & Suites on East 2nd Street and will take you across the bridge, through Sterling to the Dillon Home and back across the Rock River via the Sinnissippi Dam Walkway pedestrian bridge at Martin’s Landing. The route continues along the Hennepin Canal to Centennial Park and back to the finish line where the race began. Stick around after the race for the Fiesta Parade!
“Riverfront beautification projects for the benefit of both communities has been the goal of Bridge the Community from day one,” says committee chair Jack Spencer. “Working with Woodlawn Arts Academy and being able to continue to feature the artwork of local youth along the river has been a great opportunity for us.”
